My Artist’s Journey
I’ve always kept a sketchbook and now I have many. They’re filled with drawings, doodles, scribbles and writings, which represent my creative voice. Becoming part therapy, part meditation or perhaps just an artistic outlet for representations of an internal monologue. Often satirical and sarcastic, the art has always been based on my reactions to person situations and daily happenings.
For many years I have enjoyed searching for outlets to free my creative voice, including, sketching, mural painting, photography, airbrushing, pinstriping and of course, teaching. Now, I have turned my attention to digital media, as a way to express that creative voice.
And then the pandemic hits in 2019. Also happening at the time, I become aware of digital ownership through NBA Top Shot, Beeple, a young father, becomes news, through listening to Twitter Spaces I hear Deadfellas Betty, a young mother tell her story and finally I’m introduced to the #NFTCommunity. During a time of separation, isolation and lock-down, I was introduced to a whole new world, which is seemingly designed for all my little artist’s dreams to come true.
Now, I am creating an NFT collection. Similar to my work in my Final Year Exhibition, which consisted of three works, each a combination of my everyday characters painted over top of found, landscape paintings. This combination of my everyday drawings with landscape photos is where I will continue my journey with my first NFT collection “Greasy Kid Stuff”.
